Bagasse plates, trays and boxes

Q: What is Bagasse?

Bagasse is fibre bi-product of sugar cane which is left after the juice has been extracted from the sugar cane.

Bagasse plates and bowls are manufactured using a heat & pressure based moulding process. Since sugarcane fibre is a residual component of an existing process, this makes it sustainable and manageable. That way no extra land is required to cultivate sugarcane. We are just using a bi product of an existing process and sustainably creating a product out of waste.

Q: What are the benefits and unique features of bagasse products?

Bagasse products are commercially compostable. In small quantities these can also be composed in your garden / back yard compost bin.

There is no other material added to sugarcane fibre nor there is any plastic coating. Bagasse products are perfect alternatives to petroleum based Styrofoam and plastic products.

  • Can be used for both hot and cold foods
  • Makes your parties and celebrations “Plastic Free”
  • The extra price you pay (over plastic plates) will not cost the earth
  • These natural products match / exceed the strength and durability of a like for like plastic
  • Microwave and Freezer friendly
  • Can also hold hot & liquid foods for a limited amount of time.

Are sugarcane (bagasse) products oven safe?

Bagasse products can tolerate heat up to 200 F. So, they are oven safe ONLY up to 200 F. We do not recommend that Bagasse/sugarcane products are to be used in ovens with extremely hot temperature or where a direct flame is involved.

    Palm Leaf Plates

Our range of Disposable Palm Leaf Tableware (plates, bowls and platters) are made from naturally fallen leaves of the Indian Areca nut tree. No trees are cut to harvest these leaves. Perfect for parties, barbecues.

Areca Palm grows along the southern coast of India and many other parts of SE Asia. Palm trees shed their sheath and leaves every 7-8 weeks. These are then collected, steam washed for manufacturing of these plates and bowls. It all is done on a co-operative basis and provides additional income to the women folk of the family in the villages. Plates and bowls are manufactured using a heat & pressure based moulding process. Since basic raw material is a regeneration process in these trees riven by nature, this makes it sustainable and manageable. We are just using fallen sheath and leaves of the humble Areca Palm tree that grows naturally in the saline coastal regions. An ecosystem where not much vegetation would thrive

        • Can be disposed in the same compost bin as your food waste.
        • These can also be composted in your garden compost bin
        • If you rinse these after your meal, you can also put them in your garden waste. Effectively each plate is just a palm leaf.
        • No chemical treatment of plastic coating. 100% natural
        • Can be used for both hot and cold foods
        • Make your parties and celebrations “Plastic Free”
        • The extra price you pay (over plastic plates) will not cost the earth
