What is Chlorella?

Chlorella is a nutritious single-celled freshwater green algae which has been called “the green blood of plant life”. Why? Because it is the richest source of chlorophyll – the green plant pigment that harnesses energy from the sun.
With the highest chlorophyll level per gram of any plant, chlorella is often used as a cleanser of the blood and liver. Chlorella’s thick and tough outer cell wall is thought to bind with heavy metals to help clear them from the body, making it a potent detoxifying agent.

Chlorella’s rapid rate of reproduction is due to a complex known as Chlorella Growth Factor (CGF). A complex of cells found in the cell nucleus of chlorella, CGF is thought to have many health benefits and may stimulate tissue repair, enhance cellular energy and production of proteins and enzymes as well as protect cells from toxins and encourage the growth of friendly bacteria in the intestines.

Not only that, but chlorella is a nutritional powerhouse prized for its B vitamin content and its complete protein – meaning that it contains all 9 essential amino acids. Additionally it provides carbohydrates, enzymes, fibre, antioxidants, beta-carotene, and minerals such as calcium, magnesium, iron, zinc and sulphur. Chlorella is also a rich source of carotenoids, notably lutein, which is a protective antioxidant found in the eyes.

Why is ours better?

Grown and harvested in Taiwan, we use chlorella sorokiniana, known as the “King of Chlorellas” due to its greater CGF content. Higher Nature’s chlorella uses a spray drying method specifically designed to preserve all the chemical properties of the chlorophyll and other nutrients within the chlorella cells. Our chlorella also undergoes cell-wall splitting prior to being dried and tabletted to make the nutrients contained within the cell available for absorption.
