Borough Market To Open Sustainable New Street Food Area | Londonist

Borough Market To Open Sustainable New Street Food Area

The eclectic stalls of Borough Market offer myriad lunch options — trust us, we’ve availed ourselves of most of them at one time or another — but not many places to sit and enjoy your nosh.

Enter The Borough Market Kitchen, a new space in the legendary food market offering shoppers somewhere to sit down, relax and enjoy their food, with over 20 hot and cold food traders to choose from in the new space.

Sustainability is a key part of the new area’s ethos — it will be entirely free of single-use plastic, with furniture made from recycled materials. All dishes will be made using fresh produce from the market, and Jamaican, Italian, Malaysian, Japanese, Israeli and Singaporean are among the cuisines represented, through a range of street food dishes and small plates.

The Borough Market Kitchen will be located in Jubilee Place, the Market’s current wholesale area. Once the kitchen closes for the day, Jubilee Place will revert back to wholesale operations.

It’s due to open in mid-November 2019, to mark the 21st anniversary of the retail market, which opened to the public in 1998 — although the wholesale market is more than 1,000 years old.

Keep an eye on the Borough Market website for further updates.
