The Suffolk Sustainability Institute was launched at the Ipswich Waterfront Innovation Centre, which hosted the first Suffolk Sustainability and Innovation Summit.

Industry and academic leaders, businesses, students and others discussed a theme of how innovation unlocks the value of incorporating sustainability into business strategy.

The university and the council said the institute would provide consultancy and research, support innovation and enable knowledge transfer and skills development.ADVERTISING

It would provide a regional centre of excellence for transforming, and supporting a constant dynamic progression towards UN’s Sustainable Development Goals.

It would cover sustainable business enterprise in a green growth economy, energy, the built environment, the natural environment and communities, and green information technology.

Sue Roper, assistant director of strategic development for the council, added that the authority was “committed to enabling sustainable economic growth in our area and this significant collaboration with the University of Suffolk is a clear statement of our ambition to lead the agenda on behalf of our communities and businesses.”

The institute can be contacted by visiting their websiteor via email.
